The International Yehudi Menuhin Foundation (IYMF) was created in 1991 by Yehudi Menuhin in Brussels to realise his humanist dream: giving a voice to the voiceless through the arts. The mission of the IYMF is to remind political, cultural and educational institutions of the central position of art and creativity in the whole personal and societal development process, by promoting and implementing the use of creative arts through education, contributing to intercultural dialogue and social inclusion at both national and international levels through creative arts, and enabling co-creation and exchange between emerging and established musicians and artists, including from lesser known minorities.
Taking Yehudi Menuhin’s humanist legacy as a source, the IYMF strives to deliver a ray of light to vulnerable audiences and the wider public, bringing social inclusion through the arts by initiating and promoting many artistic and socio-cultural projects, with the MUS-E® Programme being the very first. Initiated in 1993, the MUS-E® Programme runs today in 12 countries in the world involving in last school year more than 72.612 children and up to 569 schools.
For over three decades, the IYMF has been embracing and carrying forward Yehudi Menuhin’s dream by nurturing art and creativity in education through pioneering art-based methodologies and non-formal educational approaches tailored for artists and children.
The IYMF and the MUS-E® Programme are recognised at the European level for its commitment and contribution to creating inclusive and cohesive societal systems in education in line with the European Pillar of Social Rights for quality and inclusive education and for supporting the key the objective of the Commission’s initiative towards a European Education Area.
