The Association of the European Fairy Tale Route (EFTR) established by the Fondazione Nazionale Carlo Collodi counts on a large network of 32 members across the 19 countries of the Council of Europe and 1 African country ( Morocco). The members of the EFTR including research centres, cultural associations, foundations, museums and organisations collectively promote children’s education and foster cultural exchange from a broad European perspective and share a common interest in promoting children’s education and European common values and heritage. Thanks to the rich and diversified tradition of fairy tales, the EFTR is enhancing children’s education and transmission of fundamental values, such as freedom, justice and equity as expressed in the European Convention of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms of the Council of Europe (Rome, 1950) – with all “connected values” as the respect for people, gender, nature, environment and animals. The Council of Europe has recognised fairy tales as a strong intercultural instrument for sharing the common heritage of all Europeans and certified the association as a European Cultural Route in 2022 as a strong intercultural instrument for sharing the common heritage of all Europeans.
